Eligibility ASoldier,whoiseligibleforbasicpayforactiveduty,inagivenmonth,mayalsobeeligibleforspecialpaysifvariousrequirementsaresatisfied. ASoldierentitledtoSpecialPay,whoishospitalizedforawoundorinjuryincurredasaresultofhostileaction,orwhileinthelineofduty,incursawound,injuryorillnessinacombatoperationorcombatzonedesignatedbytheSecretaryofDefenseandishospitalizedoutsideofthetheaterfortreatmentisentitledtoreceivetheSpecialPayfor12months. BenefitHighlights AssignmentIncentivePay(AIP):AIPisoftenpaidtoServicemembersforunusualorextendedassignments. Servicememberswhoareinvoluntarilyextendedincombatzonesreceiveanadditional$800permonthinAIP. ServicememberswithcertainskillswhovoluntarilyextendtheirtoursalsoreceiveAIPintheamountsof$900permonthfora12monthextension,$600permonthfora6monthextensionand$300permonthfora3monthextension.Servicememberswithcriticalintelligenceskillswithreceiveupto$1000amonthforeachmonth'sextension.ServicemembersinotherareaslocationssuchasSouthKoreaandAustraliaarealsoeligibleforAIP. AIPiscappedat$3000permonthandistaxableunlessearnedinacombatzone. AviationCareerIncentivePay(ACIP)(Officers):ACIPisrestrictedtoregularofficers,whohold,orareintrainingleadingto,anaeronauticalratingordesignationandwhoengageandremaininaviationservicesonacareerbasis.EntitlementtoACIPmaybeonacontinuousorconditional(month-to-month)basis.Monthlypaymentsarebasedonrankandyearsofserviceandrangefrom$125to$1,000permonth. DivingDutyPay:ASoldierwhoisarateddiverandassignedtoaSkillClassification/MilitaryOccupationalSpecialtyorapositiondesignatedasdivingduty.Monthlypaymentsarebasedonthesoldier'sdiverrating(e.g.Master,1stClass,Salvage,Combat).Enlisteddiverscanreceivefrom$110to$340permonth,whileofficerdiversreceivefrom$110to$240permonth. HardshipDutyPay:HardshipdutypayisadditionalcompensationforSoldiersassignedtolocationsorperformingmissionswhereconditionsaresubstantiallybelowconditionsinthecontinentalUnitedStates. HardshipDutyPayforLocationAssignment(HDP-L)ispayabletoSoldiersforeitherpermanentchangeofdutystationortemporary/deployed/attacheddutyofover30daysdurationinspecifiedlocations.HDP-Lispayableonamonthlybasisintheamountof$50,$100or$150dependingonthelocation. HardshipDutyPayMissions(HDP-M)ispayabletoSoldiersforperformingdesignatedhardshipmissions.HDP-Mispayabletobothofficersandenlistedpersonneloftheactiveandreservecomponent,atthefullmonthlyrateof$150wheneveranypartofthemonthisservedfulfillingaspecificmission.ThecombinedmaximumHDP-LandHDP-Mpayableis$300.00permonth. HardshipDutyPay–RestrictionofMovement(HDP-ROM)isdesignedforSoldiersorderedbytheircommandtorestrictionofmovementforself-monitoringduetoexposureorsuspectedexposuretoCOVID-19.HDP-ROMwillbepaidattherateof$100perdaynottoexceed$1,500permonth.EffectiveMarch13,2020,Soldiersorderedbytheircommand: Torestrictionofmovementforself-monitoringduetoexposureorexpectedexposureorCOVID-19;or Torestrictionofmovementforself-monitoringduetotravelto,fromorthroughaCenterforDiseaseControlandPreventionLevel3TravelNoticecountry ThataredirectedtodosoatafacilitythatisneitherprovidedbytheU.S.governmentnoristheirpersonalresidenceattheSoldier’sPDS Arerequiredtopayforthecostoftheirlodgingwithoutfullorpartialreimbursement. HazardousDutyIncentivePay(HDIP):Soldiersunderorderstoparticipateinregularandfrequentaerialflightsascrewornon-crewmembersmaybeentitledtoflyingpayforthatduty.Monthlypaymentsforcrewmembersvarybyrankandrangefrom$150to$250forOfficersand$150to$240forEnlisted.ThemonthlyHDIPfornon-crewmembersis$150regardlessofrank.Officersentitledtoaviationcareerincentivepay(ACIP)arenoteligibleforHDIP. HostileFire/ImminentDangerPay:Soldierssubjectedtohostilefireorexplosionofahostilemineorondutyinanareaincloseproximitytoahostilefireincidentandindangerofbeingsubjectedtothesamedangersmaybeentitledtohostilefirepay(HFP)of$225permonth.HFPispayableinthefullamountforeachmonthaSoldierqualifies.SoldiersonofficialdutyinadesignatedimminentdangerpayareamaybeeligibleforIDP.IDPispayableonamonthlybasisintheamountof$225. SpecialDutyAssignmentPay(SDAP):SpecialdutypayisforenlistedSoldiersinjobsthathavebeendesignatedasextremelydifficultorinvolveanunusualdegreeofresponsibility.Examplesofthesejobsincludeparachutinginstructors,fuelspecialists,andcombatcontrollers.Monthlyamountsrangefrom$75to$450dependingontheSpecialDutyAssignmentdesignation. SpecialPayforPsychologistsandNon-PhysicianHealthCareProviders:Inanefforttoenhancetheprofessionalenvironmentfornon-physicianprovidesandtoensurethehighestqualityofcare,theArmyprovidesanincentivepayforPsychologistsandNon-PhysicianHealthcareCareProviders.Eligibilityrequirementsarehavingapost-baccalaureatedegree;beanArmyofficerdesignatedasaPsychologistorNon-Physicianhealthcareprovider;andcertifiedbyaprofessionalboardintheirclinicalspecialty.Paymentrangesfrom$2,000to$5,000peryear,dependentonyearsofcreditableservice.Paidmonthly. SpecialPayforDentalOfficers:InanefforttonarrowthegapbetweenArmyandciviliancompensationforDentalprofessionals,theArmyprovidesadditionalcompensationthroughfivemainareas:AccessionBonus,VariableSpecialPay,BoardCertifiedSpecialPay,AdditionalSpecialPay,andMultiyearRetentionBonus. AccessionBonus:AnindividualwhoexecutesawrittenagreementtoacceptacommissionasanofficeroftheDentalCorpsoftheArmytoserveonactivedutyforaperiodofnotlessthanfouryearsisentitledtoanaccessionbonusofupto$200,000. VariableSpecialPay(VSP):AnOfficeroftheDentalCorpsoftheArmyonactivedutyforatleastoneyearisentitledtoVSPpaymentsrangesfromannual$3,000to$12,000,paidmonthlydependingonpaygradeandtheyearsofcreditableservice. BoardCertifiedSpecialPay(BCP):AnOfficercertifiedbyanAmericanDentalSpecialtyExaminingBoardrecognizedbytheAmericanDentalAssociationorawardedaBoardCertificationEquivalencyCertificateissuedbytheDepartmentofDefenseisentitledto$2,500to$6,000peryear,paidmonthlydependingontheyearsofcreditableservice. AdditionalSpecialPay:DentalOfficerswhoreceiveVariableSpecialPayarealsoeligibleforASPiftheycompletetheirinternshipandinitialresidencytrainingandagreetoserveonactivedutyforatleastoneyear.ASPispaidannuallyandrangesfrom$10,000to$15,000basedonyearsofcreditableservice. DentalOfficesMultiyearRetentionBonus(DOMRB):Toattractandretainadequatenumberofdentalofficerstomeetarmedforces'healthcareneeds.Maximumawardlevelis$50,000ayearfor4-yearagreement.Entitlementpayfordentalofficerswithspecialtiesinoralandmaxillofacialsurgery,inpaygradebelowO-7,withatleast8yearsofcreditableserviceor,havecompletedtheirADSOfordentaleducationandtraining,andinitialresidencytraining. SpecialPayforMedicalOfficers:AnOfficeroftheMedicalCorpsoftheArmy,whoisonactivedutyunderacallorordertoactivedutyforaperiodofatleastoneyear,isentitledtoadditionalcompensationfromthreemainareas:VariableSpecialPay,BoardCertifiedPay,andIncentiveSpecialPay. VariableSpecialPay(VSP):AnOfficeroftheMedicalCorpsoftheArmyonactivedutyforaperiodofnotlessthanoneyearisentitledtopaymentrangingfrom$1,200to$12,000ayear,paidoutmonthlydependingonpaygradeandtheyearsofcreditableservice. BoardCertifiedPay(BCP):AnOfficeroftheMedicalCorpsoftheArmycertifiedbyanAmericanMedicalorOsteopathicSpecialtyExaminingBoardoraBoardCertificationEquivalencyisentitledtopaymentsrangingfrom$2,500to$6,000peryear,paidoutmonthlydependingontheyearsofcreditableservice. IncentiveSpecialPay(ISP):AnOfficeroftheMedicalCorpsoftheArmywhosignsanagreementtoremainonactivedutyfornotlessthanoneyearmayreceiveanannualbonusupto$75,000dependingonthespecialtyqualificationandwhethertheyreceiveMultiyearSpecialPay. AdditionalSpecialPay(ASP):AnofficerentitledtoVariableSpecialPaywhohasacurrent,valid,unrestrictedlicenseorapprovedwaiverandwhosignsanagreementtoremainonactivedutyfornotlessthanoneyear,isentitledtoAdditionalSpecialPayintheamountof$15,000foreach12-monthperiodwhichtheofficerisnotinmedicalinternshiporinitialresidencytraining. MultiyearSpecialPay(MSP):Amedicalofficerwhosignsawrittenagreementtoremainonactivedutyfor2,3,or4yearsmaybepaidanannualretentionbonusupto$75,000dependingonthelengthofactivedutycontractandthemedicalofficer'sspecialty. AccessionBonus:AnindividualwhoexecutesawrittenagreementtoacceptacommissionasanofficeroftheMedicalCorpsoftheArmytoserveonactivedutyforaperiodofnotlessthanfouryearsisentitledtoanaccessionbonusofupto$400,000.
