CreatedaBlueprinttoEndGunViolencethatrefocusestheNYPDontheindividualsresponsibleforthemajorityofshootingsinthecityandthesourcesofgunsinthefiveboroughs,empowersviolenceinterrupters,providesjobsandenrichmentprogrammingforat-riskyouth,expandsmentalhealthcare,andimprovescollaborationbetweenthecity,state,andfederalgovernment. LaunchedthefirstwaveofNeighborhoodSafetyTeamsfocusedoncombatinggunviolence,whichintheirfirstthreeweeksofoperationmade132arrestsandrecoveredmorethan25guns.Ofthosearrested,73werepreviouslyarrestedonaseriouscriminalcharge,20havesomeinvolvementwithagangorcrew,and21areonparoleorprobation. ImplementedanewCitywideCrimeandQualityofLifeEnforcementInitiativefocusedonthe17precinctsthataccountforalmosthalfofthecity’sshootings.Undertheinitiative,NeighborhoodSafetyTeamswillworkseamlesslywithneighborhoodandyouthcoordinationofficers,aswellaswiththefieldintelligenceofficerswhofocusonidentifyingthelocationsandindividualdriversofviolentcrimeineachcommand. AdvancedtheGunViolenceStrategiesPartnership,whichfacilitatesreal-timecommunicationandinformationsharingacrosslawenforcementandprosecutorialagenciesatthecity,state,andfederallevel,focusingontheworstgunoffendersinNewYorkCity. Launchedamulti-agencyinitiativeaimedattherevitalizationandrestorationofthe125thStreetcorridor,toaddressconcernsvoicedbylocalmerchantsandcommerceorganizationsregardingdeterioratingsocialconditions. KickedoffSaturdayNightLights,ayouthdevelopmentinitiativethatprovidesfreesportsprogramsforover3,000youngpeopleeverySaturdaynightat106gymsacrossthecity. LaunchedaseriesofnewinitiativeswiththeWhiteHouseandtheU.S.DepartmentofJusticededicatedtotacklingthegunviolencecrisis,includingamajorcommitmentoffederalresources. SignedanexecutiveorderincreasingcoordinationbetweenFireDepartmentandDepartmentofHousingPreservationandDevelopmentinspectorstoidentifysafetyviolationsearlierandincreasefiresafetycompliance. SupportingVulnerableNewYorkers: Connectedmorethan300unhousedNewYorkerstoshelterduringjustthefirstmonthoftargetedsubwayoutreach. Openedover400totalsafehavenandstabilizationbedssinceJanuary1st,expandinghigh-qualityshelteraccessandservicesforNewYorkersexperiencinghomelessness. PartneredwithNewYorkstatetolaunchSafeOptionsSupportTeams,trainedmentalhealthstaffthatwillhelpbringunshelteredNewYorkersintostablehousing. CompletedthefirstportionofanenhancedefforttoconnectNewYorkerslivingonthestreetsandexperiencinghomelessnesswithsocialservicesandcleanuppublicspacesacrossthefiveboroughs. Surgedresourcestothecity’sTenantHelplineandlaunchedacampaigntohelpprotecttenantsfromeviction. ProvidedfinancialrelieftoNewYorkersimpactedbytheTwinParksfire. FoughtforachangetostatelawthatwouldrestoreaccesstothefederaltaxdeductionforNewYorkCitypersonalincometaxesforapproximately100,000NewYorkers. Filedacitylawsuitagainstabuildingownerwhohasamassedmorethan1,900violationsacross15buildingsheownsthroughouttheBronx,Brooklyn,andManhattan.Thesuitseekstocompelpropertyrepairsorimposecivilpenalties. AnnouncedsettlementsincasestargetinganillegalhoteloperatorontheUpperWestSideandaslumlordinCrownHeights,pavingthewayforthecreationofaffordablehousingforlow-incomeandformerlyhomelessNewYorkers. GettingNewYorkersBacktoWorkWithanInclusiveEconomicRecovery: ReleasedRebuild,Renew,Reinvent:ABlueprintforNewYorkCity’sEconomicRecovery,withmorethan70concreteinitiatives,including: MajornewcapitalinvestmentsintheHuntsPointTerminalMarketandsurroundingcommunitytosupportmodernizationofcriticalfoodsupplyfacilitiesandhelptheneighborhoodthrive. Providingsmallbusinessesmuch-neededrelief bycuttingopeningtimesinhalf,suspendingthecity’s25percentsurchargeonliquorlicenses,streamlininginspections,andreforminglicensingrequirements. LaunchingtheSmallBusinessOpportunityFund tomeetthefinancingneedsofhistoricallyunderservedlocalbusinessesandentrepreneurs. Strengtheningthecity’scommercialcorridorsacrossthefiveboroughs byinvestinginsmallBusinessImprovementDistricts,merchantassociations,andpublicrealmimprovements. Reformingandexpandingthecity’sMinority-andWomen-OwnedBusinessEnterprises(M/WBE)program toincreasethenumberandsizeofcitycontractsgoingtoM/WBEfirms,helpthesefirmsgrow,andsupportM/WBEsthathavenotsufficientlybenefitedfromthisprogram. Expandingthecity’stourismmarketingcampaign toshowtheworldthatNewYorkCityisopen,vibrant,andreadytowelcomevisitorsagain. Deliveredraisesforessentialgigworkers,manyofwhomareimmigrants,andallofwhomhelpedNewYorkersgetaroundthefiveboroughsduringtheCOVID-19pandemic. Announcedanewleasewiththelocal,women-ownedNewYorkEmbroideryStudiothatwillcreate500newjobsattheBrooklynArmyTerminaltomanufacturesustainablepersonalprotectiveequipmentforfrontlinehealthcareworkersnationwideanddeliveranestimated$73millionineconomicoutput. AnnouncedapartnershipthatwillcreatenewjobsforNewYorkers,expandBrooklyn’sfootprintinthefashionindustry,andprovideaboosttoNewYork’seconomyaspartofthedevelopmentoftheMadeinNYcampusatBushTerminalinSunsetPark. ExpandedtheSummerRisingprogram—NewYorkCity’slargestsummerprogramever—to110,000elementaryandmiddleschoolstudentstoprovidefun,full-day,culturally-relevant,hands-onlearning—NYC’slargestsummerprogramever. ExpandedfundingfortheFairFuturesprogram,whichprovidescoachingandtutoringforyouthinfostercare. Committedtoconnecteveryyoungpersononprobationaged21andunderwithacrediblemessengermentor—someonewithexperienceinthejusticesystemwhoiscommittedtopreventingothersfromfollowingintheirfootsteps. AnnouncedninenewFamilyEnrichmentCenters,wherefamiliesandchildrencanconnectwithneighbors,volunteertheirtime,andaccessresourcesandsupports. BeganexpandingthedoulaprogramcitywideandlaunchedtheMidwiferyInitiativeandtheMaternityHospitalQualityImprovementNetwork.
