Asof9September2010,AdelaideUnitedhadmadeAustraliansoccerhistorybybecomingthefirstteamtoclimbfromthebottomofthetabletothetop,whilstthe2009–10premiersandchampions,SydneyFC,remainedrootedatthebottom.[21]AdelaideUnitedalsoclaimedtherecordforlongestundefeatedstreakinA-LeaguehistorywiththeirwinoverWellingtonPhoenixinWeek11oftheleague,consistingofthirteengamesstretchingbacktothepenultimateroundofthe2009–10A-Leagueseason.ThissurpassedCentralCoastMariners'spreviousrecordoftwelvegamesundefeatedsetbackinthe2005–06A-Leagueseason.UnfortunatelyforAdelaideUnited,BrisbaneRoarsurpassedthisnewlysetrecord,whentheRoarcomprehensivelywontheirWeek16fixtureagainstCentralCoastMarinersatBluetongueStadium. Following18monthsunderFootballFederationAustralia(FFA)financialadministration,itwasannouncedon8November2010thataSouthAustralianconsortiumhadtakenoverownershipoftheclubwithaten-yearlicence.Newco-ownerGregGriffinstepsinasChairmanoftheclubreplacingMelPatzwald,whilstex-NorthAdelaideFootballClubCEO,GlennElliottreplacesSamCiccarello,whonowtakesuparoleattheFFA.[22][23][24] On9January2011,AdelaidebrokeitslongestwinlessstreakagainstitsrivalclubMelbourneVictorybypostinga4–1awaywininMelbourneatAAMIPark.AdelaideUnitedthenwentontomakeA-Leaguehistorybyrecordingthehighestwinningmarginintheleague'shistorywithan8–1winoverNorthQueenslandFuryon21January2011.Thisalsomarkedthefirsttimetwoplayersfromthesamesidescoredhat-tricksinonegame(SergiovanDijkandMarcosFlores),andmatchedtheall-timehighestmatchaggregatescoreof9goalsscoredinonematch.
