Class III pipes are used in low pressure and low temperature seawater systems on vessels. Think seawater systems, like cooling, ballast, ... ClassIIIpipesareusedinlowpressureandlowtemperatureseawatersystemsonvessels.  Thinkseawatersystems,likecooling,ballast,BWTSandEGMS.SurveyorsneedtoknowalotofinformationandIhavenoted,onoccasion,surveyorsarenotfamiliarwithclassIIIpipefabricationrequirementsandattempttousetherequirementsforclassIandclassIIpipes.Thisisnotcorrectandwillraisecostsignificantly.BelowmaybehelpfulifyoueverneedtodiscusswiththesurveyortherequirementsforfabricationofclassIIIpipesandpressurevesselsbasedonDNV-GLRules.  ThiswillbethesameforallIACSmembersocities.FirstletusconfirmthesepipesareinfactclassIIIpipes.  Inaccordancewithtable2below,allpipesprovidedwereforaBWTSandthepressureisbelow16Barandthetemperatureisbelow200degreesC.Further,theseclassIIIpipeswillbeusedinaBWTSwheretheseawatertemperaturewillalwaysbebelow95degreesC.TherequirementsforclassIIIpressurevesselsareinTable4andthematerialrequirements.  IRLwouldemphasize:1.     ClassIIIpipeshaveNOREQUIREMENTFORANAPPROVEDPRESSUREEQUIPMENTMANUFACTURER2.     ClassIIIpipeshaveNOREQUIREMENTFORANAPPROVEDMATERIALMANUFACTURER3.     ClassIIIpipeshaveNOREQUIREMENTFORANAPPROVEDWELDINGPROCEDUREQUALIFICATION(Despitethis,IRLhassubmitourapplicableABSapprovedASMEIXweldingWPS,PQRandWQTS)4.     Visualanddimensionalinspectionisrequiredandhasbeendone,inaccordancewithourmanufacturer’scertificates 5.     EachpipewasindividuallyhydraulicallytestedpriortoPEliningatourfactoryinaccordancewiththeincludedhydraulictestingcertificatesandifthelocalsurveyorwishestoconductalocalhydraulictest,thesystemmaybepressurizedto1.5timesthesystempressuretofurthersatisfythisrequirement.FurtherSection7clarifiesfurtherthatONLYmanufacturersofpressureequipmentofclassIandclassII“shallbeapprovedbythesociety.”  IRLDIDNOTPROVIDETHEOVERBOARDPIPEOUTBOARDOFTHEOVERBOARDVALVE.  ThiswasnotwithinIRLscopeofsupply.Table7belowdetailsthecompliancedocumentsforclassIIIpipes.  Forpipesandtubes,theMTRisissuedbythemanufacturerwhichisIRLinaccordancewithTable7.IRLhassatisfiedthisrequirement.  Ourmanufacturer’scertificatesareissuedinaccordancewithABSrulessinceallourweldingprocedureshavebeenqualifiedbyABS,buttheseABSrulesmeetallDNV-GLrequirementsforclassIIIpipes.IRLhasprovided5.1BMTCswhichareequivalenttoISO104743:1MTCs.  AlthoughGB/T18253-2018isnotspecificallyidentifiedintheDNV-GLRulesasarecognizedstandard,itisunlikelyDNV-GLwilltakeapositionthatGB/TstandardsarenotacceptabletoDNV-GLorDNV-GLwouldnotbeabletoworkinChina.TheequivalencyofaGB/T18253-20005.1BmillCerttoaISO10474MillCertisdocumentedinthebelowchartNA.1fromGB/T18253-2000 5 Like Comment Share Tovieworaddacomment,signin Tovieworaddacomment,signin WhatisPracticalEnvironmentalism?
