Intermediategoodsarenotcountedinacountry'sGDP,asthatwouldmeandoublecounting,asthefinalproductonlyshouldbecounted,andthevalueoftheintermediategoodisincludedinthevalueofthefinalgood.[3] U.S.andChineseTradeinGoodswithASEANCountriesbyUse,2014 Thevalue-addedmethodcanbeusedtocalculatetheamountofintermediategoodsincorporatedintoGDP.Thisapproachcountseveryphaseofprocessingincludedinproductionoffinalgoods. Characterizationofintermediategoodsasphysicalgoodscanbemisleading,since,inadvancedeconomies,abouthalfofthevalueofintermediateinputsconsistofservices.[4] Intermediategoodsgenerallycanbemadeandusedinthreedifferentways.First,acompanycanmakeanduseitsownintermediategoods.Second,acompanycanmanufactureintermediategoodsandsellthemtoothers.Third,acompanycanbuyintermediategoodstoproduceeithersecondaryintermediategoodsorfinalgoods.
