Glossika: A Perfect Match for Lovers of Tech and ... inside-glossika Glossika:APerfectMatchforLoversofTechandLanguage-Learning“Ifyoutalktoamaninalanguageheunderstands,thatgoestohishead.Ifyoutalktohiminhislanguage,thatgoestohisheart.” — NelsonMandelaThissayingprettymuchsumsupwhathasdrivenmetolearnlanguagesforyears.Itisthedesiretogetconnectedwithothers,nomatterwhereandwhotheyare.Followingthispassion,IdiscoveredGlossikabychancetwoyearsagoattheYourator2020DigitTalentJobFair.Theconceptofusingcomputationallinguistics(leveragingcomputersciencetechnologytoresearchlinguistics)tohelplanguagelearnerslearnbetterclickedwithme.Atthattime,Iwasstillstrugglingtofindasweetspotofmyvariedinterestsinprogrammingandlanguagelearning.IstillrememberedwalkinguptoSheena,theHRmanagerofGlossika,askingheriftherewereanycodinginternpositions.Sadly,therewerenone.LittledidIknowthattwoyearslater,IwouldhavethechancetoworkinGlosska,buildingitsfutureinternalsystem—Metagraph.TipsonInterviewPrepAcoverletterandresumewilldofortheapplication.Ensurethatyoucanproveyourpassioninlanguagesbyincluding,butnotlimitedto,showingthatyouhavetakenlanguage/linguisticscourses,passedlanguagecertifications,orwritingmediumsaboutanyrelatedtopics.Iguessitwillbeaplusifyoualsohavelearnedasecondforeignlanguage.AtWork:LearnfromtheGreatMindsMichael(left),theCEOofGlossikaandI(right).IhavelearnedalotfromMichael,theCEOofGlossika,andFreddy,myprojectteammate,regardingworkplacecapabilitiesandprogrammingskills.DuringmyinternshipatGlossika,thecompanywasplanningtobuildMetagraph.Thispowerfulinternalsystemsupportsallkindsoflinguisticwork,suchastranscription,translation,correction,auto-tagging,etc.Luckilyenough,Iwasassignedtothisprojectandwasresponsibleforfrontenddevelopment.Itwasateamof2peoplewhodirectlyreportedtoMichael.BuildingMetagraphThereweretonsofcommunicationthattookplacewhenweworkedontheproject,fromwhichIlearnedhowtosynthesizerequirementsquicklyfromdiscussionsandprioritizethem.Istillrememberedtheback-and-forthsthatFreddyandIhadwithMichaelintheseveraltalksaboutthefunctionalitiesofMetagraph.Inthebeginning,Iwasoverwhelmedbytheuncertaintiesofthesystemrequirements,becauseneitherofushadacrystal-clearideaabouthowitshouldbe.Michaelknewthis,sohegavemesometimeandspacetofigurethemoutandevenspentextratimewithme,clarifyingandprioritizingthings.Gradually,Istartedtograspthepurposebehindthesefunctionalities.Intheend,Icouldquicklyidentifyrequirementsinadiscussionandprioritizethembydegreeofurgency.FrontendDevelopmentAnotherthingIlearnedisfrontenddevelopment.Atthattime,frontenddevelopmentwasjustabuzzwordforme.IdidnotknowaboutitandstillrememberedtextingFreddy,askinghimifIshouldgiveuponthetaskbecauseIcouldnothandinthework.Iwouldneverforgethiswordsofencouragement.Hetoldme,“Don’tworry.Icanhandletheworkthistime.Youshouldhavenoproblemlearningthis.Youjustneedsometime.”Sureenough,Isoonpickedupthenecessaryskills,thankstohishelp,inscaffoldingtheprogram.Lateron,healsotaughtmealotaboutGitFlowdevelopment,DevOps,andcloudservices.Eventually,Iworkedonfrontenddevelopmentindependentlyandevenfilledinhispositionafterheleft.ADreamlikeExperienceIamtrulygratefulfortheopportunitytointernatGlossikathisSpring.Itislikeadreamcametruetome,andindeed,theinternshipwasadreamlikeexperience.Thankyou,Glossika,forgivingmethischance!Finally,Iwouldalsoliketothankalltheotherinternsinthecompanyatthetimefortheunforgettablesmilesandtearswehad.ItwasthesememoriesthatfilledmydaysatGlossikawithjoyandhappiness.:)Glossika教育新創團隊徵才中！加入我們，與來自不同文化背景的團隊成員一起打造產品、解決問題，讓全世界的語言都能夠被學習和看見！🦉追蹤我們的YouTube/Facebook/Instagram 或使用Email註冊 註冊 〈返回 當你註冊時表示你已同意Glossika使用條款 註冊完後，你會開始收到關於最新發行和特別優惠等內容的Glossika電子報 註冊 再一步就可以開始學習了！ 【Glossika實習分享｜語言學小組】尋尋覓覓中的意外收穫 【Glossika實習分享|研究開發小組】在這裡你可以提出任何想法，一起解決問題！ 【Glossika實習分享|研究開發小組】學會程式之後我的第一份跟程式相關的工作！ 曾經聽聞俄文是世界上最難學的語言，不要被這句話嚇到了。
