AFrailtyIndexcanbecreatedbyutilizinghealthdeficitsthatareroutinelycollectedinhealthassessments,suchaschronicdiseases,symptomsandsigns,laboratory,imagingandechocardiographicabnormalities,exampleofcognitiveimpairmentsordisabilitiesinADLs(activitiesofdailyliving). Acrossseveralfrailtyindexmeasuresandstudies,peoplewerefoundtoaccumulatedeficits,onaverage,atabout0.03/yearandthefrailerthepersonwas(thehigherthedeficitcount)themorevulnerabletheywerefoundtoadverseoutcomes. Estimateswerefoundtobemorestableandwithsufficientaccuracyforpredictingadverseoutcomeswhenatleast30-40healthdeficitswereconsidered. TheFIshowsaconsistent,sub-maximallimitatabout2/3ofthedeficitsthatareconsidered.Forexample,ifafrailtyindexiscomposedof30items,themostthatanyonewillhavewrongwiththemisnot30,but20.
