Atractor-loaderbackhoe(TLB)isatractor-likevehiclewithabackhoeattherear,afrontloaderontheotherandaswivellingseattopositiontheoperatorfacingwhicheverdirectionisneededatthetime.InNorthAmerica,thisarrangementisoftenreferredtoassimplyabackhoe,orwhenonachassisoriginallyderivedfromfarmtractors,atractor-loaderbackhoe.Todifferentiate,abackhoeonitsowndedicatedchassismaythenbereferredtoasanexcavator. Backhoeloadersaregeneral-purposetools,andarebeingdisplacedtosomeextentbymultiplespecialisttoolsliketheexcavatorandthespecialityfront-endloader,especiallywiththeriseofthemini-excavator.Onmanyjobsiteswhichwouldhavepreviouslyseenabackhoeused,askid-steerloaderandaminiexcavatorwillbeusedinconjunctiontofillthebackhoe'srole.However,backhoesarestillingeneraluse.Thedifferencebetweenthebackhoeandtheskid-steerloader,arethatthebackhoehasattachmentsbackandfront,whereastheskid-steerloaderonlyhasfrontattachments,however,theattachmentversatilityonaskid-steerloaderismuchgreater.
