LEX2canbeusedformanybiologicalapplications.ItcanbeusedwithMiCAMhighspeedimagingsystemsasanexcitationlightsourcefordetectingfluorescentsignals,orasalightstimulatorforcellsthatexpresslight-activatedproteinsinelectrophysiologicalexperiments. HighPower LEX2consistsofahigh-poweredLEDchip,whichproducesalightintensityover150mW/cm2.Theintensitycanbesimplyadjustedwithcoarse/finedialsonthefrontpanelintherangebetween0and150%(100%to150%intensitycanbeusedforshort-pulseilluminationlastinglessthan1second). HighStabilityofLightIntensitythroughFeed-BackMechanism Theintensityismorestablethanhalogenlampsanddoesnotproduceanyflickerorlargearcfluctuations,incomparisontoXenonandMercurylightsources.LEDsareanidealilluminationsourceforhighspeedimaging.However,lightintensityofLEDstendstodecreasewhenturnedonforlongperiodsoftime,duetotheheatofLEDchips.Tokeeplightintensityconstant,LEX2adoptsanoriginalfeedbacktechnology.Thisfeedbackmechanismresultsinlessthan0.1%driftwithin30secondsat50%intensity. SynchronizedIlluminationwithExternalSignal ThelightcanbeturnedON/OFFbysignalsfromexternaldevicessuchasMiCAMhighspeedimagingsystemsorpulsegenerators.Bysendingapulsegreaterthan1.5VthroughaBNCconnectortothefrontpanelofMiCAMhighspeedimagingsystems,thelightcanbeactivated.LEX2doesnotuseanymechanicalshutter,sothereisnonoisecausedbyvibrationorsound. AdjustmentofthelightintensitybyExternalsignal Lightintensitycanbecontrolledbyanalogvoltagesignalfromexternaldevice.3.3Vvoltageinputcanset100%lightintensity. Monitorfunctionforlightintensitysetting LEDintensityadjustmentcontrolcanbemonitoredthroughaBNCconnector.At100%intensitysetting,outputtedvoltageis3.3V. ExcitationlightsourceforMiCAMhighspeedfluorescenceimagingsystemsusingindicatorsincludingvoltage-sensitivedyes,calciumindicators,andgeneticallyencodedopticalprobessuchasvoltage-sensitiveproteins.
